The third series premiere of Merlin, "The Tears Of Uther Pendragon" attracted an average of 5.8m for BBC1 last Saturday. This is an increase of 500,000 over series 2's opener, which is particularly impressive because Merlin was in direct competition with ITV1's X Factor.
